• The Overview
The Micro-Pigmentation Centre has trained many surgeons as well as nurses and estheticians who perform these services in their clinics. The professionals at Micro-Pigmentation Centre routinely consult with doctors, and other professionals such as make-up artists and body tattooing specialists.
• What is Cosmetic Tattooing?
Cosmetic tattooing is the implantation of a pigment, derived from organic and/or inorganic compounds, into the dermis layer of the skin thereby ensuring the long lasting effect of the procedure. Historically this has been achieved through any number of methods from the archaic bamboo method which is a needle threaded onto a bamboo stick, through to the latest state of the art digitally controlled computerized tattoo machine.
• Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery
The Micro-Pigmentation Centre is heavily involved with the Society of Cosmetic Surgeons and the Society of Reconstructive Plastic Surgeons. To fulfill a specific need for plastic surgery patients, the Micro-Pigmentation Centre in consultation with doctors, has developed a series of specific pigments called the Camouflage Series. These pigments are used by cosmetic surgeons to camouflage scars that may be partially seen in the hairline after a surgical procedure.
In consultation with reconstructive surgeons another series of special pigments called the Areola Series has been developed for use during breast restoration after a mastectomy. The Micro-Pigmentation Centre’s pigment lines are formulated in house with FDA and Health Canada approved ingredients.
As an invited guest speaker at meetings of plastic surgeons Pat Gauthier has dispelled many of the myths associated with pigments including what is approved for use and what is not approved for use. She consults on such matters as how pigments react to different skin types, why they may fade, and who not to tattoo at all.
The Micro-Pigmentation Centre regularly review industry advances with these professionals and are actively involved with both Canadian Surgical Societies and their conferences. They are looking towards building their relationship with similar societies in the United States.
